2012: a very successful year for CLARIN-NL
The year 2012 has been a very successful year for CLARIN-NL. The CLARIN ERIC was established, and this fact was celebrated on several occasions (at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences; at the opening of the Academic Year 2012-2013 in Utrecht, and on a special occasion set-up by the European Committee). Many people active in CLARIN-NL have become active for the CLARIN ERIC, its governance organisation and committees.
Report CLIN 2013
On Friday 18 January 2013, the 23rd meeting of Computational Linguistics in the Netherlands (CLIN 2013) took place in Enschede. The meeting was organized by the Human Media Interaction group of the University of Twente. After previous meetings in 1994 and 2001, this was the third time the CLIN meeting took place in Enschede. The location of the meeting was slightly unusual: Poppodium Atak in the Music Quarter of Enschede, with sessions taking place in (among other places) the concert halls, the café and the theatre hall.
Towards a shared LMF core for sign language lexicons
Sign language research is a small branch of linguistics. Wouldn’t it therefore be extra easy for people to share and exchange resources? That was the thought that drove a recent workshop on sign language lexicons. With the recent stream of efforts to build sign language corpora, the creation of sign lexicons has taken on new importance, functioning not just as (learner) dictionaries but also as the vocabularies used to gloss sign language texts.

On Wednesday November 28th, the PoliMedia project team gathered to discuss our progress and decide about the future directions of the project. Each partner presented their achievements of the past 6 months, which is the first half of the project-timespan. An interface designer was invited to lead discussion about the interface and to develop wireframes.
